Since we're "so far" away now, and I know I'm not the only person who needs to SEE things to play it out in my mind, I thought I'd share our new home. It's kind of weird to live in a house that isn't OURS. I mean, it's our home, full of us & our stuff, but it's not our house, it's just a temporary place to stay. We'll be here 2 years at least, which is long enough to be able to make it a home, but after owning for so long, it's just weird to rent. We like the house though, and we like the neighborhood (although, unfortunately, there aren't lots of younger folks around it seems). We're finally settling in well, putting things in their place, & discovering the shops & such nearby. I can't believe he've been here a month already, oh how time flies!
Here's the front. Luke got the bushes on the left side all trimmed up, but he's still working on the right side, the back yard, & all the trees. There's a lot less yard to mow, but a lot more other stuff to maintain here!
When you come in the front, there's an entry hall, complete with all of our shoes & the stroller. ;)
To the left when you walk in, there's what would be the formal living room. We aren't formal people though, so for us, it's Graham's playroom.
Just past Graham's playroom is what would be the formal dining room. Again, we're not formal people, so it's Kasen's playroom. (Yes, they each get their own playroom!)
He has his own tv now, with the Wii hooked up.
If you went straight from the entrance hall, instead of turning to the playrooms, you'd go into the living room. In the far left corner, there's a door to the backyard. To the left of the built-in is the entrance to the kitchen & breakfast room.
To the right of the living room, just past the wetbar on the left (lol!, we use it as a computer storage room), is a hall to the bedrooms.
The first bedroom is the green & blue guest room.
We don't have a guest bed yet, it's on the list of things we need, but... :p For now, we have a futon + a mattress topper. It's really not that bad, even if it does seem a little poor-college-kid-ish.
Next up, Luke's awesome pink & purple office. hehe!
This is where he spends most of his days, slaving away, enjoying his pretty surroundings. No, really, I mean his pretty surroundings via the window. ;)
Then, we have Kasen's room. He picked it 'cause it's right next to our room AND it has this awesome shelf going around the top of the entire room. Perfect stuffed animal storage!
There's the hall bath, which is huge! Well, the sink area is at least.
The tub is behind the door, to the right.
At the end of the hall is the master bedroom. Yes, we do have 2 blankets on the bed. Since Graham is usually in our bed, we have to each have our own blanket so he's not smothered. Plus, Luke's a blanket hog. :p
Looking the opposite direction through the room, you can see down the hall. The hall bath is the first door on the right (Kasen's room is across from it), a huge closet is next to it, then there's an opening to the short hall to the living room, then the open door at the end of the hall is the guest room, with Luke's office next to it.
The mater bath is pretty great. VERY roomy, a major upgrade from our last 2 houses! There's even his' & her's closets!
...and the shower!!! 2 shower heads, and so much room that I swear you could fit a family of 4 in there at one time! (Yes, Graham's bathtub is in there. I realized it's easier to bathe him in there while I shower, rather than bathing him in the kitchen sink.)
The toilet is behind the door to the left & there is SO MUCH storage in the bathroom! (There's actually lots of storage all over this house!)
From the other side of the living room, you enter the breakfast room, with the kitchen to the left & the laundry room to the right. (Yeah, the wall paper & curtains need some major upgrading, but whatever.)
The massive laundry room! Big enough for the washer, dryer, deep freeze, & dog food storage. This is where the dogs spend their days. (Well, and outside, of course.) There is also a tiny half bath in the laundry room. Nothing special to see though, just a toilet & sink, and more wallpaper circa 1970.
From the laundry room - the breakfast room, kitchen, and then a pocket door closes off (or not) Kasen's playroom.
The whiteness makes the room very bright (good thing 'cause this house doesn't have enough windows for my liking), but it's so obvious when anything is dirty!!
Yeah, there's 3 coffee makers out... the Bunn is put away, we couldn't have overkill you know. ;)
Finally, the back yard. The lot is the same size as our old house, but with a 1 story & detached garage, you lose A LOT of yard. It's still a decent size for the city, but too small for my taste. (Luke is happy with the lack of mowing though, so he wins.)
So, that's Our NEW Happy Home. We're happy to host any friends or family that want to visit (and we'll have a real bed instead of just a futon even... at some point).
